Position description of Analytical Chemist
Client: Indorama Holdings Rotterdam BV.
Term of project: 6-12 months
About the client: Indorama Holding Rotterdam BV. is performing chemical tests concerning physical and chemical tests for the QC and production of PET (used in e.g. plastic bottles). Indorama’s aim is to provide the very best of PET products so that customers have the Confidence to Act on their results. The lab is on the same site as the production so the student will get a good experience and direct knowledge about how a lab is used in a multinational like Indorama. Group patriarch Mr. M.L. Lohia established the genesis of the Indorama family of companies in Indonesia. Today, his sons have established leading companies that form the world’s largest manufacturer of Polyester and PET as well as are one of the largest producers of PTA in the world.
Tasks: Performing chemical tests concerning physical and chemical tests for the QC and production of PET (used in e.g. plastic bottles). The student will use different type of analytical instruments and also practise wet chemistry.
Carry out work with the following techniques: GC, GC/MS, GC/MSMS, HPLC, AAS, ICP, IR, UV/VIS, LC, LC/MSMS, PCR

It will be about real daily work routine. You will learn what you can expect, how the equipment works and how the companies are organized. This means that you do your work like their regular employees. Of course there is more time to guide you and to let you get used to the environment and equipment.
At the moment we cooperate with big national and international companies like Alcontrol, I.F.F., Shell, Aqualab Zuid and Environmental & Food Laboratory Zeeuwsch-Vlaanderen for this project.

The department of Chemistry consists of approximately 50 employees divided over the units Analytical and Physical Chemistry, Bioanalysis and Environmental Fate and Metabolism. There is a great deal of diversity in our research and we test a multitude of substances in an extensive modern equipment park. Our research is focused on making the safe use of new substances possible.
To accomplish this challenging and varied work we are looking for: Analytical Chemist (PhD)
For the position of Study Director in the following unit:
The Analytical and Physical Chemistry unit is specialized in method development, validation and analysis of pharmaceuticals, polymers, chemicals and pesticides in various samples (water, formulations, soil). Physical-chemical studies are also performed in this unit.
Our equipment is state-of-art including: UPLC-MSMS, GC-MS, ICP-MS, GC and HP/UPLC systems.
Your Tasks:
As a Study Director you are responsible for the planning, the performance and the scientific quality of the studies, and you provide the interpretation and report the results. You also are in close contact with clients and you build a good relationship with the customers. Together with a team of study directors you are the contact for the clients for technical and scientific questions with regard to analytical chemistry.
Your Profile:
• A completed academic training at preferably PhD level;
• Relevant experience in working with HPLC, HPLC-MS, GC and / or GC-MS;
• Experience with GLP is strongly recommended;
• Excellent project management skills;
• Fluent in English;
• Good communication and interpersonal skills;
• A critical attitude, customer-oriented, motivated and enthusiastic.
